TIMEDREAM & KG will Present Sounds [10.24]
This Thursday Patience/Impatience Records founder Glen Goetze and I will Present Sounds from 7-11pm. Eli Live Canteen is cooking.
Glen and I did a Present Sounds together in the early days of the project and the music he played that night, and tends to release on his imprint, helped crystalize the concept of horizontal music for me- a world I’ve really enjoyed exploring these past couple of years. Horizontal music is what we’ve been using around here to describe the types of sounds that are best consumed in a horizontal position and/or a deeply relaxed state. It’s nice to have some photogenic speakers to play music on, but the priority here has always been comfort and safety. Without these things fidelity is lost. I’m looking forward to revisiting the space with him on Thursday and seeing what doors open next….
fieldtalk will Present Sounds and Stephanie & Alice will conduct a special Halloween shadow puppet show[10.31]
Next week’s Present Sounds falls on Halloween. There was much discussion around the studio about how to properly celebrate this occurrence in Present Sounds style. Stephanie and Alice’s live shadow puppet show seemed like the perfect fit as the last iteration was spooky as hell. For this edition they are creating a whole new cast of characters and handmade props. fieldtalk/Vin will drive the narrative of the show through sonic guidance of field recordings, vintage stories, commercials, spoken word programing, and of course rare vinyl painstakingly dug from all corners of Brooklyn record shops. He’s been prepping for this one his whole life ;). Guaranteed there will be some special treats in store too…
Classics: Pet Sounds + Smile [11.1]
Greg is hosting a listening session for seminal Beach Boys/Brian Wilson records Pet Sounds and Smile on the 20th anniversary of the long overdue release of later. Originally recorded in 1967 the album wasn’t finished until the early aughts, and really captures the essence of Wilson’s genius. Come hear it in all it’s glory on a system that will be tuned specifically for the session. Movie theatre conduct will be expected of attendees. We’ll be getting into some listening sessions for classic records in 2025, including some quadrophonic mixes…more on that later….
Earthen Sea, Skeleton Zoo, Broken Every Angle, Ari Finkel [11.2]
A night of live sonic exploration from a solid crew of ambient and experimental vets. We’ll keep the lights low for this one. If you want the beanbag I suggest arriving early.
Something nice to listen to:
